Boom-Boom Makes Some Noise With 100th GGSL Goal! PDF Print E-mail
Sari Jon Jan 2015 SmallOn March 25th, 2016 Man United's Jon "Boom-Boom" Burgoyne joined the ranks of the GGSL immortals, notching his 100th league goal.  Jon becomes the 2nd Man United player to achieve this honour, following Chris Tuck who earned his century late last year.  Known for his fearsome shot and competitiveness, Boom-Boom becomes the 10th player in the stats era (i.e. Fall 2008 to date) to achieve this milestone and just the 4th to have done so with the same franchise.  Jon admits that the prospect of notching his 100th GGSL goal helped motivate him during his rehab from a horrific ankle injury he suffered last summer.  "When I was putting in all those hours with the physios and in the weightroom, this is the moment  that I visualized.  This is the moment that kept me pushing through the pain!" he said contentedly.

Orange Crush Fit To Be Tied! PDF Print E-mail

RopeOn March 18th, Orange Crush set a GGSL record that will likely never be beat - except if they can extend the record themselves in their next game.  Incredibly, Crush have tied 8 consecutive games.  The streak started with a 2-2 tie versus Man United in the last game of the Winter season, continued through the 3 games of the B Shield, and now 4 games into the Spring season.  Even Crush Manager Keith "Yoda" Corkum, who has almost seen it all in his decades in the game, can't remember anything like it.  Despite being incapable of winning during this extended stretch, things haven't been all bad for the Soda Pops as they were able to win the B Division Shield due to their penalty-taking prowess.  Dragons Fire's stalwart David "Never Stop Improving" Lowe pushed the record to 8 games when his well placed shot off the left wing found the far corner on record setting Crush keeper Alan "Der Kaiser" Pfahl, knotting up the game at 4-4.

Earl the Pearl on Post St. Patty's Day Rampage PDF Print E-mail

Angry leprechaunFuelled by his ethnic pride (and likely plenty of distilled liquids as well), Earl "The Pearl" McGuire was a one-man wrecking crew in the feature B Division match of the week.  In the aftermatch of St. Patty's day, McGuire went on a scoring rampage, picking up his 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th goals of the current campaign as he led his Thee Olde Boys team in a romp over Atletico by a score of 7-4.  The Gaelic boy from the other side of the Irish Channel didn't do too badly either - Iain "Bagpipes" McDougall rounded out the scoring for the victorious geriatrics with a hat-trick.

Gunners Edge Spurs for A Shield! PDF Print E-mail

Gunners - 2016 A Division Shield

Congratulations to the Gunners who will need more room in their trophy cabinet following a nail-biting victory in the A Shield final over arch-rival Spurs.  With the exciting game tied after regulation, it would take penalties to finally decide matters.  A huge stop by Gunner's keeper Andreas "Dr. Dre" Loizou proved to be decisive.  Before celebrating back at Connors Pub, Manager Ron Palaczka accepted the A Shield from GGSL President Lakis Karyofyllis on behalf of the victorious Gunners.
