Gunners Win Record 3rd Consecutive Shield! PDF Print E-mail

Gunners 2017 A Shield over Reds

The Gunners hold on the A Shield seemed to be slipping away, but some late heroics by Kelby Shaw tied the game at 2-2 and they would maintain their mastery over the Reds with a win in the penalty shootout.  This makes it a 3rd consecutive A Shield by the Gunners, a new GGSL record! Condolences to the expansion Reds who pushed the Gunners to the limit, before ultimately falling in the cruelest of manner, via the width of a crossbar during penalties!

Man City B Shield 2017 over Dortmund

In a match-up of the #1 and #2 seeds, Man City prevailed by a score of 4-3 over a game Dortmund squad in the finals of the 2017 B Shield. The match was decided by the slimest of margins - a headed back ball where the Dortmund player and keeper weren't quite on the same page. Post-game, the teams set aside their season long rivalry to gather for a combined team photo.

on behalf of the Nunavut Soccer Association,  Sanikiluaq, Nunavut

Local youth coaches Jay Da Costa & Gina Pacheco are heading to Nunavut from Feb 17-19 to run a soccer camp for 100 children aged 8-18, and PE classes at the local school.  They are looking to collect & distribute indoor soccer shoes.  The northern youth are extremely passionate about soccer and are in need of indoor soccer shoes.  Many wear ill-fitted hand-me-downs, outdoor studded shoes and/or play in socks.  Please consider dropping off your used or new indoor soccer shoes of all sizes – for both genders at the dome on February 10th (or during the following week in the Hornets Clubhouse).  For more information, please contact Jay at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. B Shield Format - With 10 teams, the B Shield has a twist!
Week 1: All 10 teams play the opponent determined by an open draw.
Week 2: Among the 5 winners, a 2nd draw takes place to determine the 4 semi-finalists. One team will be an "unlucky winner" & elminated from the Shield (Man City, anyone?).  This is required to give all teams a chance to compete for the Shield in the allocated 3 weeks and definitely adds another element of unpredictability to the competition!
Week 3: Winners play in the Finals at 9:00 on Field #1.
A Shield Format - With 6 teams
Week 1: The top 2 teams in the standings advance to the semifinals directly.  The other 4 teams play the opponent determined by an open draw.
Week 2: Winners of the 2 games in week 1 and the 2 "bye" teams are drawn to determine the semi-final pairings
Week 3: Winners play in the Finals at 8:00 on Field #1.
Of course, we will still have lots of other soccer "friendlies" going-on for the teams not competing directly for the Shield.
Good luck to all teams!  We look forward to amazing soccer, as well as great sportsmanship, during this year's GGSL Shield!
