|Lakis Nabs 2016 Gloucester Soccer Volunteer Award|
Congratulations to GGSL President Lakis Karyofyllis who has been named a winner of the 2016 David Bowyer "Volunteer of the Year" award! The award is presented annually to 3 individuals adjudged to have provided outstanding volunteer service to the Gloucester soccer community ("Ottawa Gloucester Soccer Club") on behalf of the recreational, competitive and adult ("Seniors") branches of the OGSC. Lakis was recognized by the Gloucester Senior Committee for his work with the GGSL.
"Lakis has demonstrated outstanding leadership in helping guide the GGSL, which has truly become one of the finest examples of a men's recreational soccer league in Canada", said Gloucester Seniors' President Keith Corkum. "Lakis always had an ambitious vision for the GGSL, but he is also prepared to roll up his sleeves and put in the hard work to achieve that vision. He has insisted on a principled management of the GGSL. This includes his commitment to ensuring league access for players of various skill levels, his belief in the critical importance of sportmanship & fairplay within the league, and his efforts to promote a fun, friendly atmosphere among the GGSL teams & players." Corkum concluded with, "No doubt men's recreational soccer in East Ottawa has been the big beneficiary of Lakis' efforts and as such he is a most-worthy recipient of this year's Volunteer of the Year award."
Lakis joins other esteemed winners of the David Bowyer award in the GGSL, including Keith Corkum, Paolo Filipponi, J.C. Daigle, George Papandreou and Alan Pfahl.
