|Update! GGSL Shield Final Set for Feb 17!|
GGSL END-OF-FALL SEASON SHOWCASE:
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!
The GGSL Shield starts on February 3rd for a 3 week period. NB: This is an open-draw tournament in the great tradition of the European domestic cups. Update: The finalists have now been determined following the Feb 10 semi-final game results,
B Shield Format - With 10 teams, the B Shield has a twist!
Week 1: All 10 teams play the opponent determined by an open draw.
Week 2: Among the 5 winners, a 2nd draw takes place to determine the 4 semi-finalists. One team will be an "unlucky winner" & elminated from the Shield (Man City, anyone?). This is required to give all teams a chance to compete for the Shield in the allocated 3 weeks and definitely adds another element of unpredictability to the competition!
Week 3: Winners play in the Finals at 9:00 on Field #1.
A Shield Format - With 6 teams
Week 1: The top 2 teams in the standings advance to the semifinals directly. The other 4 teams play the opponent determined by an open draw.
Week 2: Winners of the 2 games in week 1 and the 2 "bye" teams are drawn to determine the semi-final pairings
Week 3: Winners play in the Finals at 8:00 on Field #1.
Of course, we will still have lots of other soccer "friendlies" going-on for the teams not competing directly for the Shield.
Good luck to all teams! We look forward to amazing soccer, as well as great sportsmanship, during this year's GGSL Shield!
